Wood River Elementary holds grand opening for refurbished playground

Community members were invited to a grand opening/ribbon cutting for the new accessible playground on Monday evening to see improvements made over the summer break and help celebrate the official completion of the new secure front entrance. Updates to the playground included rubber surfacing on the playground, fencing, concrete, drainage, and artificial field turf for the open field play area. See more pictures on page 8. Tenth Annual Gibbon VFD BBQ Cookoff proves a success on Saturday

The Gibbon Fire Hall was a hub of activity of Saturday afternoon and evening as the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 10th Annual Barbecue Cookoff. Local teams as well as some from around the area battled for top honors. The Limp Brisket team took top honors overall on the night followed by Whiskey Dick’s BBQ in second place and El Puerco Loco BBQ finished in third place. The event also included kids’ pedal tractor pull and a cornhole tournament. (–photos by Dennis Walker)

Clipper Country area 4-Hers participated in the Buffalo County Fair in Kearney July 23-29

Kesleigh Potter (left), of Gibbon, poses with her Champion Purple ribbon, judge Seth Racick and her champion dairy goat. Kesleigh and her dairy goat (bottom, left) earned reserve champion. She also received Junior Champion Dairy Goat Showman, a Purple ribbon in Mother-Daughter class, a Purple ribbon in Milking Doe (two to three years), a Purple ribbon in Non-Milking Doe (one to two years), a Purple ribbon in Doeling (under five months), and a Purple ribbon in Dairy Herd.
