The First United Methodist Church in Wood River and the Alda First United Methodist Church in Alda recently welcomed a new pastor to their churches. Pastor Rachel Nkonge conducted her first services at each church on Sunday, July 21, shortly after her arrival the previous Thursday.
According to the all-knowing calendar, school activities, fall sports and, ultimately, classes, are lurking around the corner for students, parents and staff in the Gibbon, Shelton and Wood River communities.
Wood River FunFest 2024 delivered on its name with three days of fun events, food and activities Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 2, 3, and 4. Smiles abounded during the three-day celebration as attendees enjoyed the annual parade and many other activities such as face painting. See more photos from FunFest on page 3 of this issue! The Annual Gibbon Tractor Pull held on the west edge of Gibbon on Friday, August 2, drew another large crowd of enthusiasts from near and far despite the sweltering summer heat. The event featured all shapes and sizes of Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pullers in nine classes. Roaring engines, smoke and flying mud were the order of the day at the much anticipated event.
FunFest 2024 is set to begin on Friday, August 2, and the annual parade will feature grand marshals Steve and Sara Arnett, who were selected for their many contributions to the community over the years.
