Veteran’s Memorial Park was the place to be last Friday night when Shelton Area Lions Club Family Movie Night debuted. Approximately 200 movie-goers filled up on popcorn, hot dogs, candy, and bottled water at home plate. Adorned with glow sticks, the crowd then moved blankets and lawn chairs to the outfield for entertainment provided by RockIT Event Pros. With perfect weather conditions “The Little Rascals” began at sundown, setting the stage for an evening of free family fun. By partnering with the Kearney Area Foundation and Give Where You Live Campaign, Shelton Area Lions have been able to purchase several community enhancements. In Veterans Memorial Park additions include the pavilion, basketball hoops, tornado slide, playground equipment, splash pad cover, permanent American flag fence design, and July 4th Bingo. A beautiful “Welcome to Shelton” sign now greets residents and visitors entering from the east, and in December the downtown region will sparkle with new Christmas lights. This year’s Give Where You Live Project, attractive sand volleyball courts, will return in the spring. Local Lions demonstrate their international motto “We Serve” through various acts of community assistance such as an October Food Drive, Farmers Market, and Mobile Screening Unit. New members are always welcome. Those interested in joining are encouraged to contact any Shelton Area Lions Club member.
