The wait is nearly over for the three days for family friendly fun for Wood River and area residents as the 2024 Wood River Fun-Fest: Wood River Stock celebration kicks off on Friday, August 2, and continues on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and 4, in Wood River.
After deciding that the local lawn mowing market was too competitive to make a profit, three Gibbon youngsters struck upon an idea to not only make money during the summer months but one that benefits their community.
Precision Agronomy Solutions is working with the Wood River FFA Chapter and several local growers to demonstrate new technology for water management. The technology measures evapotranspiration (ET), the loss of water from the soil through evaporation and transpiration.
Kaycee Tompkin, daughter of Dana and Jennette Tompkin, of rural Wood River, recently competed in the Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Expo held in Grand Island July 13-17. She participated in a number of events with two Top 10 awards, placing seventh in Senior Pole Bending and ninth in Senior Ranch Pleasure. She also took part in the 2024 Hall County Fair, bringing home Champion in Poles and Keyhole and Reserve Champion in English Pleasure, English Equitation, Reining, Ranch Riding, and Barrels.
