Members of the Shelton Village Board of Trustees discussed the use of an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grant for the Shelton Public Library, purchased a box broom, looked at a request to block off a street for a street dance, and addressed damage done to Ayres Street at a short summer meeting held on Thursday, July 11.
The Wood River Legion Juniors wrapped up the regular season on Monday, July 8, and then concluded the season overall as they competed in the C-5 Nebraska American Legion Baseball Area Tournament July 12 through 14.
On Sunday morning, July 7, at approximately 2:00 a.m., 15 Union Pacific train cars of an eastbound Union Pacific train carrying coal derailed along Highway 30 in Gibbon, spilling their payload along the tracks. No one was injured in the derailment, according to Union Pacific spokesperson Robyyn Tysver, who also indicated that the incident is under investigation. The Shelton Food Pantry at the Shelton United Methodist Church recently announced that it had received a grant for $7,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will be used towards building a better future by the Shelton Food Pantry.
