The Gibbon FFA Chapter will be sending two teams to this month’s state competition after competing at the District 8 Career Development Events held on Wednesday, February 11, at Central Community College in Grand Island.
After dismantling the fourth seeded Axtell Wildcats, 60-46, in their first contest of the D2-7 Subdistrict Tournament on Tuesday, February 24, the top seeded Shelton boys basketball team hit a wall in the form of the tournament’s number two seed, Pleasanton, in the subdistrict final on Thursday, February 26, and saw their season come to an end by a 33-64 margin. Both games were played on the Bulldogs’ home court.
The fourth seeded Eagle boys basketball team defeated fifth seed Giltner/Harvard in the play-in game of the C2-8 Subdistrict Tournament, 64-36, on Monday, February 23, to advance to the play top seeded Cross County on Tuesday, February 24, where the Eagles unseated the tournament’s number one seed to advance to challenge Fillmore Central in the subdistrict tournament final on Thursday, February 26. The Panthers held off the Eagles and Wood River’s season came to an end in that subdistrict battle. All three games were played on the court at Cross County.
Shelton’s fourth seeded Lady Bulldog basketball team ran into a red hot thirteen seed in the Arapahoe girls basketball team in the D1-4 District final on Friday, February 27, and met defeat by a 55-67 final tally to end their season. The game was played on Shelton’s home court.
