Wood River Winter Ball King, Queen candidates announced

The Wood River Rural High School 2024 Winter Ball is scheduled to be held this Saturday, January 27, at the high school. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with king and queen coronation to be held at 7:30 p.m. The dance will be held from 8:00 to 10:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the coronation. This year’s queen candidates are, front row, left to right, Sage Brabec, Ana Clara Gama Dias, Macie Peters, Addison Stutzman, and Dayrin Zarraga Hernandez. King candidates are, standing, left to right, Johnny Canfield, Josh Luehr, Victor Rodriguez Zarraga, Reid Graves, and Waylon Cronk. The Middle School Winter Dance will be held this Friday, January 26, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. with doors opening at 7:45 p.m.

Lady Centura basketball team tops Cardinals and Broncos

Centura’s Lady Centurion basketball team recorded wins over Doniphan/Trumbull and Centennial last week on the court. In a game scheduled originally for Tuesday, January 9, and played on Tuesday, January 16, the Centura ladies shot down Doniphan/Trumbull, 46-26 on the road, and then ran past Centennial on Saturday, January 20, 54-35, at home.

Wood River girls wrestlers take LPC crown

A third place finish at the John Higgins Invitational at Lexington on Friday, January 19, was followed by every member of the Wood River girls wrestling team who wrestled at the conference meet earning a first or second place medal at the LouPlatte Conference meet and the team finished the day as LouPlatte Conference Champions. According to head coach Christian Thompson, the Lady Eagles defeated the next closest competitor (Gibbon) by 117 points. Wood River also set a new school record for team points in a tournament with 190.
