The Gibbon Lady Buffalo basketball team had two road games on the schedule last week. On Tuesday, December 9, the Lady Buffaloes traveled to Overton where they fell 2473. On Friday, December 12, the Gibbon ladies took on the Lady Rebels of Arcadia/Loup City in Loup City where they recorded their first win of the season, 39-29.
Ivan Tamayo used two pins and a sudden victory to win the 138 pound title at the Wood River Invite last Friday, December 12. Ivan was one of five Gibbon wrestlers to place at the meet. The Buffs scored 108.5 points to take seventh in the 15 team field. Doniphan/Trumbull won the meet with 201 points.
The Shelton boys basketball team finished hoops action 3-0 last week on the home court after getting past Pleasanton, 63-53, on Tuesday, December 9, to begin the week’s action and then came out on top in an overtime battle with Kenesaw on Thursday, December 12, by a 62-60 margin. The boys came back the following day with a 56-51 win over visiting Wilcox/Hildreth.
“The Wood River girls wrestling team opened week two of the season with a strong home performance Thursday, December 11, defeating Minden 60-24 in a dual that showcased the team’s depth and continued progress,” reported Wood River head girls wrestling coach Christian Thompson.
Shelton 130 pounder Payton Braun won all four of her wrestling matches at the Wood River Invite on Saturday, December 13, to win the title. The four member Shelton team placed 13th out of 28 teams competing with 49 team points. Schuyler won the meet with 185.5 team points.
