The Shelton Lady Bulldog basketball team finished in third place at the Ravenna Holiday Tournament held on Monday and Tuesday, December 29 and 30, which also included the Palmer girls team. Shelton fell to Overton, 47-30, on the 29th but came back to down Palmer in the third and fourth place game by a convincing 82-15 score on the 30th for a third place finish.
The Elm Creek Holiday Tournament and the first regular season contest of 2026 were struggles for the Gibbon boys basketball team as they met defeat at the hands of host Elm Creek on Monday, December 29, 42-85, and were then bested in the tournament’s third and fourth place match on Tuesday, December 30, by Arcadia/Loup City, 39-66. Giltner/Harvard came out on top of their contest with the Buffaloes, 74-54, in Giltner on Saturday, January 3.
“It was a rough day for our team,” Wood River head wrestling coach Darin Waddington said of the Wood River Holiday Duals Tournament held on Saturday, January 3, where the host Eagles finished in eighth place among eight teams competing. “We did not compete well and did not step up to the level of competition.” Pierce won the duals tournament.
Wood River’s boys basketball team cruised to a 70-41 victory over Highway 30 and Lou-Platte Conference rival Gibbon Buffaloes on the court in Gibbon on Saturday, December 20.
