Wood River’s Lady Eagle basketball team faced a trio of tough teams on the hardwood last week and recorded one win and suffered two losses.
“A slugfest,” was Shelton head boys basketball coach Will Reutzel’s estimation of the Bulldogs’ battle on the road with the Deshler Dragons on Thursday, January 9, where the Shelton boys delivered a 63-53 victory.
With wins over the host Ravenna Bluejays and Overton Eagles, the Shelton boys basketball team brought home the Ravenna Holiday Tournament championship last week. The Bulldogs ran past Ravenna on Thursday, January 2, by a 59-32 final tally and chalked up a 65-43 win over Overton in the tournament championship game on Friday, January 3.
“The Wood River girls wrestling team competed at the Cryin’ Creek Dual Tournament on Monday, December 30, in Weeping Water,” reported head coach Christian Thompson. “Wood River was short-handed on the day due to injuries but came home with a sixth place finish. Wood River defeated Weeping Water and Nebraska City while dropping duals to Beatrice, West Point-Beemer, and Papillion LaVista.”
