State hammered by high winds
The State of Nebraska was the victim of bouts of dangerously high wind gusts on Thursday of last week and on Sunday, causing damage to some trees, like the one pictured in Gibbon’s Davis Park and causing hazardous driving conditions both days as well as fanning fires burning in different parts of the state. The National Weather Service in Hastings recorded wind speeds of 74 mph at Doniphan, 63 mph at the Grand Island Airport on Sunday, and 51 mph at the Kearney Airport.
