Open house and ribbon cutting held for Gibbon Fire Hall addition

Area and local officials and members of the public attended the open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new addition to the Gibbon Fire Hall on Saturday, February 10. Mayor Deb VanMatre spoke prior to the ribbon cutting, thanking the community for its support of the new addition and all who had a hand in it becoming a reality. Platte Valley/Twin Loup Strike team completes Red Card certification class

The Platte Valley/Twin Loup Strike team completed a Red Card certification class put on by the State Fire Marshal’s training division on Saturday, February 10. Wildland fire behavior, fire suppression tactics, and life/property protection strategies are a few of the concepts that were taught and put into practice during the ten hours of hands-on application and 22 hours of class time. The volunteers in this task force from local departments are dedicated to the protection of life, property, and the environment. Departments with members who attended the class included Boelus, Cairo, Chapman, Dannebrog, Elba, Farwell, Grand Island Rural, Loup City, St. Paul; and Wood River. Attendees were very grateful to the State Fire Marshal’s office instructors from across the state and the Janulewicz family, of Boelus, for use of their land for the hands on training.
