Members of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department spent some time on Wednesday, October 9, talking with students at Shelton Elementary about fire safety and fire prevention in observance of Fire Prevention Month and Fire Prevention Week, October 6 through 12. This year’s theme was “Smoke Alarms, Make Them Work For You.” Department members Cliff Keslar, Cindy Brandt, and Darren Emal explained details of their job as firefighters and gave tips and information to students that can keep them and their families safe in case of a fire in their home.
According to the National Weather Service, the state of Nebraska is under extreme fire danger. Harvest is in full force with many farmers working in the fields under these severely dry conditions. They will be taking to the field with heavy machinery that can get hot, throw off a spark or get clogged, starting a fire.
Wood River’s Legacy Station is preparing to switch tracks soon as the fundraising phase wraps up and the construction phase begins.
The Clipper plans to feature local candidates involved in contested election races in upcoming issues, beginning next week.
