Smiling faces and holiday cheer were abundant Sunday afternoon during the first annual Merry & Bright Christmas celebration in Shelton. The first annual event featured great food, crafts, shopping, music, and of course, a picture with Santa!
At the recent quarterly meeting of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation, a new scholarship in Barbara “Barb” McTavish’s name was established. Funds for this scholarship were from the memorials the family received and by contributions from her family.
Long-time Shelton Public School para-educator Brenda Moeller was presented the Nebraska Para-educator of the Year for 2022, from sixty nominees on Tuesday, November 8, at an award and recognition ceremony at the State Paraeducator Conference 2022 held at Younes Conference Center in Kearney.
On Friday, November 18, the Gibbon Mock Trial team defeated Kearney High in the Regional Championship round, held in Kearney at the Buffalo County Courthouse. Gibbon was the defendant in the case, and Kearney High acted as the plaintiff, according to Gibbon coach Angie Clevenger. The Gibbon team will advance to State Mock Trial, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday, December 5 and 6, at the Hruska Federal Courthouse in Omaha. Twelve teams advanced to the state competition. Each team will compete in three trials, two on Monday and one Tuesday morning. The two highest scoring teams will advance to the championship round on Tuesday evening. Everyone is invted by the Shelton Area Lions Club to the Merry and Bright Christmas lightning event planned for the Shelton business district from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4.
