Gibbon and Shelton celebrate in the sun!

The Gibbon and Shelton Independence Day celebrations got off to a hot start, before Mother Nature put a halt to the late evening plans. The parades in both towns were filled with the traditional floats, cars, and kids. Park activities ranged from sand volleyball in Shelton, to a plethora of fun and games at Davis Park in Gibbon. The annual Independence Day special picture section will come out in the next issue of The Clipper.

WRCCF thanks local fire departments for volunteer work

At the recent monthly meeting of the Wood River Fire and Rescue Department, members of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation (WRCCF) joined with Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Nebraska to recognize and express gratitude to local fire departments for their volunteer work in the Cairo, Wood River and Alda communities. It has been a busy spring for the local departments. Checks were presented to the Cairo Fire Department, Alda Fire Department and the Wood River Fire and Rescue Department in recognition of the vital role they play in the safety of members of their communities and insure “The Good Life in Rural Nebraska.” Pictured are, left to right, WRCCF members Peg Krause, Dave Harders, Jenie Maloney, Jenny Reeder, Judy Wagoner, and Abby Rennau; and Chance Miles and Ron Miles, of the Alda Fire Department; Steve Oseka, of the Cairo Fire Department; and Nate Mayhew, of the Wood River Fire and Rescue Department.
