Gibbon FBLA officers attend retreat

On July 20, the new Gibbon FBLA officers team met at Harmon Park in Kearney and then at the Kearney Public Library to discuss this year’s upcoming FBLA events and plan the 2023-24 Program of Work. The officers participated in a team building activity, dinner, dessert, and then a planning meeting. Officer and chapter monthly meetings were scheduled, and they discussed the 2024 officer election process and campaigning, the new FBLA logo, and increased national and state membership dues, which were important topics. The fall recruitment drive will ask returning members to pay $20 and new members will pay $25 which includes an FBLA t-shirt. Gill and Powell selected 2023 Little Miss and Mr. Wood River

Addy Gill and Jaxon Powell were recently selected as Little Miss and Mr. Wood River 2023 and will ride in the 2023 Wood River FunFest Parade this Saturday, August 5. Addy Gill is the daughter of Dylan and Adrienne Gill and will attend kindergarten at Wood River Elementary this fall. Jaxon is the son of Danny and Chelsea Powell and will be a second grader at Wood River Elementary in the fall. Candidates were asked to write/draw why they love FunFest. On her entry, Addy wrote, “I love FunFest because of the games and donut eating contest. I loved riding my bike in the race and racing my minnow. I liked doing my cheerleading dance in the parade. This year I’m excited for Bingo and face painting. I want to jump in the bounce houses with my friends. Go Eagles!” Jaxon’s entry read, “I love FunFest because I get to see all my friends! The parade and the tractor pull are my fave. I think it would be cool if me and Julia could ride in my Papa’s Bud’s car as Mr. and Ms. Wood River. (–courtesy photos)

Shelton Historical Society receives NSHSF grant

The Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation (NSHSF) recently announced grant recipients of the 2023 Statewide Grants Program. Among the forty-one community organizations across the state to receive grant funds totalling almost $50,000 was the Shelton Historical Society (SHS), which was the recipient of $900.00. NSHSF received seventy-four grant applications requesting $131,873.00 to fulfill needs such as conservation of collections, public programming, outreach, exhibits and more. Moninger recognized for service on Shelton Housing Authority Board

At the June board meeting of the Shelton Housing Authority, current board member Vicki Lewis (standing, left), board vice chair Henry Brandt (standing, center), and board chair Sharon Myers (standing, right) presented outgoing board member Cindy Moninger (seated) with a small token of appreciation for her years of service to the Shelton Housing Authority. Cindy served on the board from 2017 to 2023. She brought a business prospective to the board and will be missed greatly. Her time served is truly appreciated. Cindy’s departure does leave a vacancy on the Shelton Housing Authority Board. This position is appointed by the chairman of the Shelton Village Board of Trustees. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Shelton Housing Authority Board, which oversees the Pioneer Apartments, please submit a letter of interest to the Village Office or Shelton Housing Authority. If you would like to attend a monthly meeting of the Shelton Housing Authority, meetings are held at the Shelton Housing Authority Community Room at 4:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.
