Two Little Miss Wood Rivers will ride in the 2025 FunFest Parade when the festival is scheduled to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 1, 2 and 3. Hannah Powell and Cora Crumrine were selected for the honor.
Gibbon’s Little Free Pantry has found a new home in the community. After being located near the parking lot of the Gibbon Baptist Church for several years, the pantry has been relocated to Rosen Park with the help of the City of Gibbon and city administrator Matt Smallcomb’s parks crew. Food and toiletry items may be placed to share in the pantry at any time and those in need are encouraged to “Take what they need and give what they can.” The pantry is unable to accept clothing or household items. Pastor and Elizabeth Troyer-Miller were recently named as grand marshals for the 2025 FunFest parade. FunFest is set to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 1, 2 and 3, in Wood River.
On Thursday, July 17, CHI Health St. Francis Foundation awarded more than $127,632 to 16 local fire and rescue departments and funded trauma skills training at the hospital. The majority of the grant funding was made possible by the Foundation’s annual premier fundraiser – Ticket to Win. Five Clipper Country departments were among those awarded grants for expenses they had not budgeted for in their annual budgeting processes. The Alda Volunteer Fire Department was the recipient of $7,000 for personal protective equipment, the Boelus Fire and Rescue Squad received $4,000 for a ventilation fan and air bags. The Cairo QRT received $4,000 for AED, binder life, and equipment storage; the Dannebrog/Boleus Rescue Squad was the recipient of $3,156.80 for scoop stretchers; and Wood River Fire and Rescue received $4,000 to be used for Stop the Bleed kits and burn kits. Since 2017, the CHI Health St. Francis Foundation has awarded more than $614,907 in total to local fire and rescue departments for emergency lifesaving equipment and training expenses. Emergency first responders in Hall, Hamilton, Howard, Merrick and Greeley counties are eligible to apply for Ticket to Win grant funding.
