Wood River celebrates Winter Ball
Students and staff at Wood River Rural High School celebrated the upcoming Winter Ball with dress up days all week long, beginning with Disney Day on Monday; Twin/ Group Day on Tuesday; and Mean Girls on Wednesday. Today (Thursday) has the Color War theme (seniors wear black, juniors purple, sophomores white, and freshmen gray), and Friday is Country Day. Winter Ball candidates are, front row, left to right, Kiernan Paulk, Baylie Codner, Sage Gideon, Keely Wiese, and Boston Boucher; and back row, Cade Huxtable, Devin Jepsen, Tristan Fisher, and Austin Buettner. The Winter Ball will be held on Saturday, March 20, at Wood River Rural High School from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. with the crowning of royalty at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Shelton speech sends four to state meet Friday
Shelton High’s speech team traveled to Bancroft-Rosalie to compete in the D1-2 District meet on Tuesday, March 9. Overall the team placed third, and four individuals qualified to compete in the state competition on Friday, March 19, at Kearney High School.
Relief funds explained at Gibbon Board of Ed meeting
The Gibbon Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 8. Among the agenda items discussed were the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds received by the district and the OWL unit the district recently purchased.
Cairo VFD Smorgasbord is Saturday
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the annual Cairo Volunteer Fire Department Smorgasbord will have a different look this year. It will be a drive through event. The Smorgasbord will be this Saturday, March 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cairo Community Center. There will be no presale tickets, just pay in the drive through when you pick up your meal.
