Eagle ladies sweep through sub-district

Wood River’s Lady Eagles entered the Class C2-10 subdistrict basketball tournament as the top seed and proved that status by winning their contests over Blue Hill and Elm Creek in the games played at Wood River Tuesday and Thursday, February 16 and 18, earning the right to advance to the district tournament one win away from a berth in the state tournament. The wins push their total for the season to 21 in the 23 games played.

Cairo VFD Smorgasbord to be held March 20

The Cairo Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual Smorgasbord on Saturday, March 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cairo Community Center. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the Smorgasbord will have a different look this year. It will be drive through. There will be no presale tickets, just pay in the drive through when you pick up your meal. All meals will include pulled pork and beef, fireman potatoes,

Our Wrestlers Compete at State Championships

Six Clipper Country wrestlers represented their schools and fans at the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships last week at Omaha. Medalists for the area grapplers were fourth place finishes for Dylan Ancheta from Wood River, at left, and Gibbon’s Jose Escandon at top.
