An audit of the district’s finances and planning for moving to an alternate learning environment highlighted the regular monthly meeting of the Gibbon Board of Education on Monday, Novembe 9.

Veterans were honored at Centura Public Schools for Veterans’ Day, last Wednesday. The usual recognition ceremony wasn’t held this year due to the coronavirus; however, the students at Centura honored the veterans in other ways. Elementary students made cards that were sent to area veterans from Boelus, Cairo, and Dannebrog. A Veterans Wall of Honor was placed in the 100 pod with 95 stars representing staff, relatives, and friends beside a 48-star flag from Mrs. Kay Carpenter that has been in her family for 55 years. Students and staff honored veterans by writing the name, relationship to the student or staff, branch of service, and time served in the service on the star. Staff that served in the Armed Forces were honored at an acknowledgement ceremony, and were given a cookie and card from the Centura Student Council. In addition, advertisements were placed in area newspapers from the students and staff of Centura Public Schools. The Centura School District wishes to express its gratitude to the veterans on Veterans Day and everyday for their sacrifice to our nation. Thanks to the recent fundraising efforts of Wood River Rural High junior, Jenna Rauert, each child in Wood River Elementary will be able to order a book at no cost through the Scholastic Book Club.
