Dedication, ribbon cutting held for Wood River’s child development center
A dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting drew a large crowd to the Stick Creek Kids Child Development Center in Wood River on Saturday, May 1. Wood River Mayor Greg Cramer, assisted by young volunteers, cut the ceremonial ribbon before giving his comments at the event. Keynote speaker Nebraska Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley (below, left) toured the Stick Creek Kids facility and offered his comments and Sara Arnett and Katie Gardner (below, right) spoke about their gratitude to the donors who helped make the years long vision of the center a reality. Also speaking and introducing speakers during the ceremony were Elizabeth Troyer Miller, Chelsie Doane, keynote speaker Marti Beard, Associate Vice President of Early Childhood Programs for the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, and members of the Wood River Ministerial Association Pastor Matt Troyer Miller, Pastor Trudy Hanke, and Pastor Craig Stephens who gave the blessing of the building, staff and families. The Wood River Rural High School band ensemble played the National Anthem and the Wood River/Alda VFW provided the flag raising. Guided tours of the building and refreshments followed the ceremony. The Stick Creek Kids Child Development Center opened its doors on Monday. (–photos by Dennis Walker)
