Weekend fire destroys Duane Flory home

A fire that started in an attached garage ultimately destroyed the Duane Flory home on 115th Road northwest of Shelton on Saturday, December 30. According to Shelton Fire Chief Taryn Hawks, the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department was called to the fire shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hawks said that the fire had spread from the garage and halfway into the Flory home. He explained that the fire was extinguished by around 6:00 p.m. that evening. Chief Hawks said that at 10:00 p.m. that night, the department received a call that the home was then fully engulfed in flames. He said once firefighters returned to the scene, a contingent stayed until 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning and were relieved by other firefighters who stayed on scene until about 11:00 a.m. The Shelton department was aided by the Gibbon and Wood River Volunteer Fire Departments. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
