“Thirteen Eagles raced at Ravenna on Thursday, September 17, eight boys and three girls in the varsity 5,000 meters,” reported Wood River cross country coach Matt Cantrell. The Eagle boys team placed ninth out of 18 teams with 116 team points. The Doniphan/Trumbull boys won the boys’ side of the meet with 10 team points. The Wood River ladies placed 13th with 152 team points among 13 girls teams running with Amherst taking the girls title with 12 team points.

The Shelton volleyball team competed at a triangular at Wilcox/Hildreth with Axtell on Tuesday, September 15, and hosted the ladies from Lawrence/ Nelson on Thursday, September 17, in volleyball action last week. Axtell outlasted the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-23, at the Tuesday triangular and Wilcox/Hildreth topped the Shelton squad, 25-19, 15-25 and 2517. The Shelton ladies gave the home fans a three-set sweep when Lawrence/Nelson came to town, defeating the visitors, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-14. No individual statistics were available at press time. Down time was not something afforded to the Wood River volleyball team last week as they competed at the Broken Bow Triangular with Grand Island Central Catholic (GICC) on Tuesday, September 15, and at the Central City Invitational on Saturday, September 19.
