Gibbon Independence Day celebration includes Buffalo County’s official parade
The community of Gibbon has a long history of celebrating Independence Day and according to research by local historian Jean Widdowson, Gibbon held the first such celebration in Buffalo County in 1871 at the area of the Boyd Ranch west of town, just months after arriving in the area. In 1872, a long running tradition of holding a July 4 dance began and when Davis Park was established, the Independence Day celebration included “refreshment booths” located around the park, similar to today’s food trucks.
