Lady Eagles bounced from subdistrict tourney by Cross County

After defeating the number four seeded Maxwell Lady Wildcats in the play-in game of the C2-7 Subdistrict Tournament by a 52-43 score on the court in Elm Creek on Monday, February 17, the fifth seeded Wood River Lady Eagle basketball team was defeated in the next round by the top seed, Cross County, 33-66, at Cross County on Tuesday, February 18, which eliminated the Wood River ladies from the tournament and ended their season.

Lady Bulldogs dart past foes in D2-4 contests

Shelton’s Lady Bulldog basketball team stormed past their opponents, Hampton and Nebraska Lutheran, in the D2-4 Subdistrict Tournament last week. The Shelton ladies breezed past Hampton in the first round, 64-14, on Tuesday, February 18, and fought past Nebraska Lutheran, 64-44, on Thursday, February 20. Both games were played on the court in Shelton.

Five Eagle grapplers headed to state meet after earning medals at C-2 District meet

Five Eagle wrestlers will represent Wood River at the state wrestling meet this week after earning medals at the Class C-2 District meet held at Tekameh Herman on Saturday, February 15. Jace Martin, Jhonny Matias Trejo, Bryan Flores, Ikaiah Edgren, and Andy Aguilar turned in medalwinning performances to earn a ticket to the state meet.

Bulldogs Larraga, Williams earn right to compete at state wrestling

Shelton boys wrestlers Dominick Larraga and Demarion Williams battled through the competition at the Class D-1 District wrestling meet, held at Shelton, on Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15, to qualify for state competition in Omaha this week. As a team, the Bulldogs finished in 14th place with 43.5 team points among the 24 teams at the district meet. Aquinas Catholic amassed 159.5 points to win the meet.
