Edgrens make Cornhusker State Games a family competition

Ikaiah Edgren, who will be a junior at Wood River Rural High School this fall, recently issued a challenge to his family members to participate in the Cornhusker State Games held in Lincoln, which he had taken part in last year. This year, Ikaiah was joined by three family members who competed with him at the Cornhusker State Games on the day set aside for track and field competition, Saturday, July 22. Family members joining Ikaiah were his father and coach, Kevin; his aunt, Becky Edgren, of Holdrege; and cousin, Kristine Edgren, a Betrand alumnus. All four competed in the shot put and discus in Lincoln in different age groups and all four earned medals. Kristine, pictured far left, placed second in both the shot put and discus in the Mixed Female Masters 19-29 year old division. She had a throw of 38’ 2” in the shot put and 92” in the discus. Becky (second from left) earned second place in both events in the Mixed Female Masters 60-64 year old category with a throw of 27’ 9.50” in the shot put and a 60’ 8” effort in the discus.
