Suntych, Zimmerman lead Centurion girls and boys at Sutton Invitational

By turning in the top finishes for the girls and boys track and field teams, respectively, Lauren Suntych and Calvin Zimmerman led the Centurion contingent at the first meet of the season, the Sutton Invitational on Tuesday, March 19. The Lady Centurions scored 30 points for an eighth place finish and the boys totalled 34 points for sixth place in their rankings.

Shelton track and field athletes compete at Sutton Invite It is always a great thing when you can get a beautiful sunny day in the middle of March for a track and field meet, and that was just the case when both the boys and girls Shelton track teams rolled into Sutton, on Tuesday, March 19, for the Sutton Invite.

Shelton students bring home trophies from ACTIONS Day

About 661 students from 24 high schools, including Shelton, participated in ACTIONS Day on Wednesday, March 20, at Central Community College-Hastings. ACTIONS, which stands for “Academic Competition That Inspires Our Nation’s Scholars,” featured exams in 40 areas. Each student took at least two exams. Trophies were awarded to the students who placed in the top five in each area. Shelton students bringing home trophies were, left to right, Brandon Lozo, first place Psychology; Cheyenne Thibodeau earned second place in Health Conditions; Olivia Cure, second place in Literature; Quinn Hellerich, third place in Astronomy and third in Solar System; Alexa Holder placed fourth in Early Childhood; Susanna Cheney, fourth in Children’s Literature; Erin Gegg placed second in Quotes, third in Women’s History, and fourth in Grammar I; and Logan Eutsler earned first place in Heating and Air. Thornburg and Cure qualify for state speech competition

The Shelton speech team, consisting of MaKayla Thornburg and Olivia Cure, competed at the D2-1 District competition hosted by Lincoln Southwest High School on Tuesday, March 12. MaKayla placed fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation. Olivia placed third in Persuasive speaking and qualified for state competition. MaKayla was the district runner-up in Poetry and also qualified for state. Both ladies will be competing in Class D2 at the state meet on Friday, March 22, at Kearney High School.
