State wrestling meet ends with Escandons on the medal stand

Gibbon’s representatives at the 2020 state wrestling championships in Omaha last weekend took different routes to their medal winning performances in their weight classes. Brothers Jose, a sophomore, and Daniel, a senior, earned medals at the “big show” in Omaha. Jose placed fifth in the 113 pound class and Daniel finished fourth in the 126 pound division, representing the Buffaloes in fine fashion.

Clipper Country grapplers to split mats and times at state!

Gibbon’s Andres Aguilar gets the upper leg on his opponent at the Buffaloes’ district meet at St. Paul last weekend. Twelve Clipper Country wrestlers earned their way to the state meet in Omaha this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Gibbon brothers Daniel and Jose Escandon, will wear the Buffalo colors. Shelton will be represented by Jesse Sauceda, Ethan Dack, Sam Tourney, Alex Spotanski, and Castor Ruyle. Wood River will have five wrestlers flying the Eagles’ flag at Omaha. Dylan Ancheta, Eli English, Riley Waddington, Carson Thompson, and Nick Brodigan will compete for Wood River. The state meet opens today (Thursday, February 20) and continues Friday and Saturday at the CHI Center in Omaha. Saturday showcases the cream of the crop for each class of wrestlers, starting at 8:30 a.m. with the consolation semi finals, followed by the fifth and sixth place matches and the third and fourth place matches.
