The Kearney Catholic Stars softball team racked up nine runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the thir and held the visiting Centura-Central Valley Diamonds scoreless to post a 9-0 win in a short three inning affair on Tuesday, August 21.
It took just three sets to send Arcadia-Loup City’s Rebel Ladies home with a straight-set loss Thursday, August 27, after Wood River’s Lady Eagles allowed just 13 first-set points, then held their guests to only nine in the second-set loss, and made it complete by holding A-LC to 15 in the third set.
“We were missing some key players tonight, so I was proud of the way the other girls stepped up and filled the gaps,” offered Gibbon head volleyball coach Lonna Pickel of the Lady Buffaloes’ 3-2 season-opening victory on the road at SEM on Thursday, August 27. “They worked hard together and pulled out a win. I look forward to seeing what they can do this season as they gain confidence and experience.”
While competing against each other for many years, Wood River and Shelton athletes will combine their talents this year as one football team. The team now known as the “Silverbacks” put their show on display last Friday night with a scrimmage for the public. Many other Clipper Country teams tuned up for their seasons with scrimmages last week. See inside this issue for more pictures of scrimmages.
