Wins eluded the Gibbon Buffalo boys basketball team in the first two games of the new season as they dropped a close overtime season opener to visiting St. Paul on Thursday, December 2, 34-38, and were bested by Central City the following night, 25-51.
Sebastian Sauceda earned first place at 106 pounds at both of the Bulldog wrestling team’s first two meets of the season, the Ravenna Invitational on Friday, December 3, and the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, December 4. Gunner Spotanski logged a third place finish at the Harvard Invitational.
Both the new Centura girls wrestlers and the boys team got their seasons underway at the St. Paul Triangular on Thursday, December 2, and then saw action at the Ravenna Invitational on Friday, December 3.
Dedicated, resilient, and ambitious are all words to describe Centura senior, Masilia Arndt. Arndt is a true inspiration to all, and she’s even made history at Centura High School. From being the first female wrestler to enlisting in the military, Arndt never gives up.
On Monday, December 6, members of the Shelton FFA chapter participated in the District FFA Leadership Development Event contests, held in Amherst. In the junior high ag quiz bowl contest, the team consisting of Erin Gegg, Susie Cheney, Macy Willis, and Jalyn Branson received a blue ribbon; the second team of Sonja Warner, Drake Power, Jaxson Ohlman, and Alexa Holder received a white ribbon. Erin Gegg is going on to the Nebraska State FFA Convention in Discovery Speaking after winning first place. Joining her at State Convention is Justine Pope, who earned second place purple in the FFA Creed Speaking. Noah Summers and Jaylea Pope competed in Extemporaneous Speaking where they received a white ribbon and the second place purple, respectively. This will be Jaylea’s third year competing at State in Extemporaneous Speaking. The Senior Parliamentary Procedure team of Jaylea Pope, Taylor Lewis, Kellen Gegg, Brianna Simmons, Jett Johnson, and Skyler Summers was granted a purple ribbon. State FFA Convention will be held in April.
