Wood River eighth grader Braden Carter finished the Hall County Spelling Bee, held at the Wood River High School Theater on Tuesday, January 18, as the runner-up. Braden is the son of Greg and Michele Carter, of Wood River.
The Wood River Rural High School 2022 Winter Ball will be held Saturday, January 29, at the high school. The doors will open at 7:00 p.m., with the Coronation at 7:30. The public is invited to attend the Coronation. Winter Ball Court Attendants are Ellie Morgan and Beau Rohrich, freshmen; Sage Brabec and Reid Graves, sophomores; and Bre Engelker and Caleb Paulk, juniors. The Arcadia/Loup City Lady Rebels were no match for the Shelton Battling Lady Bulldogs as they were dominated, 13-58, by Shelton on Tuesday, January 11, and Ansley/Litchfield fell to the Shelton ladies on Friday, January 14, by a 30-42 margin.
The Wood River Eagle wrestlers were topped in a dual with Central City, 30-51 on Thursday, January 13, but managed a top-five, fifth place finish at the Gibbon Invitational on Saturday, January 15.
