Clipper Country athletes compete in state junior high meet

Junior high athletes who competed in the Nebraska State Junior High Meet in Gothenburg on May 13 were, left to right, Emerson Graves, of Wood River; Susanna Cheney, of Shelton; and Erin Gegg, of Shelton. Graves and Gegg qualified in the triple jump and Cheney qualified in the 100 and 200 hurdles. Macy Willis, of Shelton, qualified in the shot put but was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. Erin Gegg placed 20th with a jump of 30’ 3” and Emerson placed 11th with a jump of 31’ 2”. Both girls had farther jumps prior to state. Susanna ran the 100 hurdles and placed fourth with a time of 16.65 seconds. Her preliminary time was 16.29. She placed 14th in the 200 hurdles with a time of 31.77 seconds. (—courtesy photo)

Emmersyn Price earns State Special Olympics medals

Emmersyn Price, daughter of Kris and Amber Price, of Wood River, earned a second place medal in the 25 meter assisted front stroke and a third place medal in the 25 meter assisted backstroke in State Special Olympics swimming competition on Friday, May 20, at the KROC Center in Omaha. Emmersyn said of the competition, “The experience was great,” said Mrs. Price. “There were lots of volunteers who cheered on everyone.” Of the event, Emmersyn said, “It was fun, but I was nervous with all of the people there. I was very happy to come home with more medals.”
