Rowe Sanctuary celebrating 50 years with crane season special events
Leadership Nebraska recently celebrated the achievements of 35 outstanding graduates from its Class XVI, who were honored during a commencement ceremony in Lincoln on Thursday, February 20. This special occasion recognized the commitment and contributions of leaders from across Nebraska as they received certificates and commemorative awards marking their successful completion of the program. Among those graduates was Gibbon City Administrator Matt Smallcomb.
Area wrestlers from Wood River, Shelton and Gibbon competed at the Nebraska state wrestling championships last week in Omaha. Gibbon sent eight wrestlers, Shelton sent three, and Wood River had nine competing on the mats at the “big show.” The Eagles of Wood River had two who wrestled their way to the championship matches, Alyssa Thomas (pictured above) came up just one win short of winning it all in the girls 130 pound division in Class B on Wednesday, February 19. In the boys Class C 113 pound division, Jace Martin, at right, had to settle for the silver last Saturday. Jace, a junior, has qualified as a freshman and sophomore during his high school career, earning second last year, and a sixth place medal in 2023. The Gibbon City Council moved to approve an Americans With Disabilities (ADA) study of city-owned buildings and discussed nuisance ordinances among the many other items on its agenda at the council’s regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday, February 18.
