The Kearney Area Community Foundation recently awarded a total of $76,000 in Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund grants to ten local nonprofits, including the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department and the Shelton Community Pool Project.
With the help of grant funding, work to make improvements at the Gibbon Heritage Center is continuing in the form of crews doing “tuck pointing” on the building’s exterior in between bouts of rain. Tuck pointing involves repairing mortar joints between the bricks to improve a building’s appearance as well as structural integrity. Other ongoing projects at the center includes cleaning, reorganizing items in a more viewer friendly fashion, updating records, cataloging of items, and some down sizing of items.
