The Hall County Historical Society (HCHS) is pleased to announce the dedication of a new Nebraska State Historical Marker honoring Othman Ali (O.A.) Abbott, Nebraska’s first Lieutenant Governor on Monday, August 4, at 3:00 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Grand Island.
The Wood River Red Cross Bloodmobile will be Tuesday, August 5, at the Wood River Community Center from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. You can register online at www. redrossblood.org. Three days of activities and family friendly events await those who attend the 2025 Wood River FunFest celebration held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday August 1 through 3, in Wood River. The theme this year is “Stars and Stripes and Small Town Vibes.” Grand Marshals for the annual parade will be Pastor Matt and Elizabeth Troyer-Miller and Little Miss Wood Rivers for this year’s celebration are Hannah Powell and Cora Crumrine.
Fairbanks Irrigation, along with Wish Irrigation, generously donated universal well adaptors to the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department. These fittings are quite beneficial as they are designed as a one-size-fits-all solution for irrigation wells, which simplifies the department’s operations significantly. The convenience of these adapters is truly impactful for the department. Firefighters can now simply grab one item from the truck and be ready to fill tankers, eliminating the need to search through compartments for various well adapters that are not used frequently. From a training perspective, these universal adaptors streamline the process considerably. It’s much simpler to train someone on how to use a single tool rather than having to explain and demonstrate the numerous combinations of well fittings they might otherwise need to use in the field. The Shelton Clipper staff is making plans to continue to improve local and in-state delivery of your printed newspaper in the coming weeks. Recent changes to local Gibbon subscribers delivery was improved by two to four days, and a plan that involves our printer, and the Omaha post office, should improve more Clipper subscribers’ local and in-state delivery.
