COVID-19 casualties

Due to directives issued by Two Rivers Health Department and Governor Peter Ricketts, the annual Independence Day Parade in Gibbon has been cancelled. The Gibbon Chamber of Commerce and Gibbon city officials attempted to put together a workable plan to follow regulations to continue this annual event but the efforts were ultimately denied by Two Rivers Health Department. The chamber regrets any inconvenience the cancellation may cause.

SPS plans for 2020-21 school year

A focus group of Shelton Public School staff has been created to concentrate on a proactive plan for the 2020-21 school year, with the ongoing coronavirus in mind. According to Principal Jeff Kenton’s board report during the June 15, Shelton Board of Education meeting, he and Shanna Gannon, the incoming superintendent, have been meeting weekly to discuss different models for the fall semester of the school year.

City of Gibbon earns economic honor from State of Nebraska

Increased economic investments and a commitment to county-wide housing partnerships have earned Gibbon (population 1,886) statewide recognition from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) as DED recently announced Gibbon’s designation in the State’s Leadership Certified Community (LCC) Program. DED Business Development Consultant and LCC Program Coordinator Kelly Gewecke honored local officials during a special presentation at Gibbon’s City Council meeting on Monday, June 15.
