Shelton and Gibbon residents celebrate Independence Day

Residents of Shelton and Gibbon refused to let the July 4 Independence Day holiday spirit go without expressions of celebration and although official parades could not be held due to COVID-19 Directed Health Measure regulations that would not allow parades, residents of both towns organized unofficial “parades,” or a “Freedom Cruise,” in Gibbon’s case on Saturday. Gibbonnites organized a motor parade with an assortment of motorcycles and vehicles of all styles and ages. Sheltonnites started the day with the annual Shelton Stampede road run and ended with the fireworks show at the school football field. Members of the Shelton American Legion Post 297 also marched the streets of town showing the colors and their patriotism. The Clipper will publish a special picture section next week with scenes of the parades, fun run, family celebrations, and more. (—photos by Dennis Walker and Lynn McBride)

Show your independence

With most of the annual July 4th Independence Day activities in Gibbon and Shelton cancelled due to the coronavirus and the Directed Health Measures that govern public gatherings, the staff of the Clipper will not have the opportunity to show off our communities as we have normally done in the past. This does not mean our towns and our people won’t have family celebrations.
