On Tuesday, July 21, the Cairo, Boelus, and Dannebrog Volunteer Fire Departments combined their resources and manpower to participate in a house burning exercise in Cairo. Cairo, Dannebrog, and Boelus saw 19, nine, and seven volunteers, respectively, involved in the training.

Just in case anyone wonders how schools who have competed against each other in various sports over the years can pool talents and work toward a common cause, Coach Jeff Ashby, the head coach of the new Silverbacks, a combined team of Shelton and Wood River football players, stated it very simply, but very frankly when he emphasized oneness, “It has always been my philosophy that we will put the best players on the field. That’s not going to change. As far as I’m concerned, we are one, now.”
Students return to classes and how to keep students and staff safe was among the agenda items covered by the Gibbon Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 13.
The Shelton School Board hosted the regular July board of education meeting on Monday, July 13, with a new administrative team. On the agenda was the approval of the contract for Mr. Jeff Kenton, who is now the principal of the elementary and secondary wings. Mrs. Jenette Meyer’s contract was also approved. She will split her time and responsibilities between part-time assistant principal duties and teaching.
