The Outdoor Storybook Walk of Lights at the Gibbon Public Library provided holiday fun for all ages on Sunday, December 20, as participants enjoyed the festive lights while reading “I Saw Santa in Nebraska,” which was posted around the sidewalk of the library. The event even brought Jolly Old Saint Nick out to wave at and talk with the participants. Hot cocoa to-go and other gifts were given to those attending from a distance. The lights and story will remain up through Christmas for those wanting to walk through on their own.

The Centura Student Council and the Character Council participated in the Toys for Tots Program and Project Undercover, as a service project for Christmas. The programs are sponsored by the Heartland United Way and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to provide holidays gifts, socks, and underwear for children 12 and under in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties.

In the wake of the Kearney Area Community Foundation’s Give Where You Live Day of Giving held on Thursday, December 3, it was recently announced that the Shelton Fire and Rescue Department was the recipient of the “Fabulous Freshman” $500.00 prize for the non-profit that raised the most money during Give Where You Live as a first time participant.
