A change to the district’s decision making process when it comes to deciding on wearing masks at school was among the agenda items at the regular monthly meeting of the Gibbon Board of Education held on Monday, October 11.

Navy sailor Clayton Stoppkotte, a 2013 graduate of Shelton High School, who recently returned from an eight month deployment in Rota, Spain, with stops in Italy and Germany, was among those meritoriously advanced to E02, his next highest pay grade, at a ceremony in Gulfport, Mississippi, on September 8, where he is stationed. The Navy’s Meritorious Advancement Program is extremely competitive, especially considering the talent, dedication, character and accomplishment across the program. Only twenty percent of Naval enlisted men receive this certificate as a way to advance the most qualified sailors ahead of the semiannual advancement cycle. Area harvest operations continue to pick up as producers take advantage of the cool, dry conditions over the past two weeks. In its crop progress report last week, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service indicated that corn maturity in the state was 85%, less than the 89% mark of last year but ahead of the five-year average of 80% and that harvest was at 21%, ahead of last year’s 20% and ahead of the 16% average.
Kelley Jordan, fifth through twelfth grade band director for Centura Public Schools, did not initially plan to follow her family’s footsteps and teach music. In fact, Jordan first thought she wanted to have any job besides teaching.
