Wood River Ministerial Association Food Pantry receives funds for backpack program
The Wood River Ministerial Association’s Food Pantry recently received a gift of $570 from Heritage Bank and Heritage Insurance for its backpack program. Funds were raised through the Heritage Cares program whereby employees chip in five dollars to wear jeans and the bank matches it. March was the Wood River branch’s turn to select a local recipient. Nancy DeVore, Food Pantry coordinator, explained that they currently send home 55 “backpacks” of food each Friday to ensure no child goes hungry over the weekend. This program began in 2008 and has done amazing work the past 14 years thanks to generous donors and volunteers who assemble the backpacks. Presenting the donation check on Tuesday, April 12, was Sara Arnett (third from left), representing Heritage Bank and Heritage Insurance, and representing the pantry were, left to right, Beckie King, Pat Lammers, Nancy DeVore, Cheryl Philbeck, Lisa Rathman and Kay Bockstadter. The Wood River Food Pantry exists to help anyone experiencing food insecurity. If you know someone who could benefit from this community service, or if you would like to donate or volunteer, please contact Nancy DeVore at (308)383-7482. (–photo by Dennis Walker)
