Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department holds annual banquet

Members of the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department held their annual banquet on Saturday, March 19, at Buffalo Chipz. Department members receiving service awards included, above, left to right, Jim Bolin for 30 years of service, Jeff Ash for his 10 years of service, and Jacinda Wilkie and Lane Brown for their one year of service to the department. Long-time department member Glenn Kollars, at right, was the speaker for the banquet. “He has always been so proud of our local fire department and he served many years on it, both as chief and in other positions,” said Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Rick Brown. “His speech showed the pride he had in it and how important they are. Shelton’s Jaylea Pope earns state speech championship in Extemporaneous

Shelton High School senior Jaylea Pope earned the Class D1 State Championship in Extemporaneous at the NSAA Speech Championships held at Kearney High School on Friday, March 18. Pope wrote a total of four speeches for the state competition. With her first place finish, Jaylea qualifies for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions. Shelton High took five contestants in three events to the state speech meet. Jaylea is the first Shelton speech champion since 2015 when Jake Senff was the Class D1 Champion in Extemporaneous speaking and D1 runner-up in Entertainment speaking.
