After three years of planning, and three different city administrators, visible signs of progress have become visible to Gibbon residents on the new addition to the Gibbon Fire Hall. Site preparation began in late March on the east side of the fire hall and a public groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday, April 10, for the new addition.
Toasted Ponies will rock the stage this Sunday, April 16, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Theater at 13800 W. Wood River Road. This will be the last concert of the Celebrate Wood River Performing Arts Council Performing Arts Series for 2022-23.

This week hundreds of FFA students and their advisors from across the state descended on Lincoln for this year’s State FFA Convention. Each year the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation selects two recipients for their FFA Advisor of the Year award. This award honors FFA advisors for outstanding work in their local communities.
Janice (Randall) Martin’s great-grandfather came through the Gibbon area in late April, 1852, on the Oregon/California trail from Ohio. He went to California before returning to his family in Ohio and later settling near Gibbon. Janice says it must have been a beautiful April day when he came through for him to settle here of all places! Janice’s parents, Floyd and Edna (Hammans) Randall, moved to a house northwest of Gibbon in 1920 and never moved. Floyd and Edna both graduated from Gibbon in 1916, Janice graduated in 1950, and her daughter, Sina Martin Lehn graduated from Gibbon in 1986. Daughter, Jill Martin, died when she was a second grader of a congenital heart condition.
