Chengs to perform this Sunday in Wood River

Celebrate Wood River Performing Arts Series will continue in 2022, featuring Kevin and Heidi Cheng this Sunday, February 27, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Center. If you haven’t experienced this amazing piano/violin duo yet, now is your chance. Kevin on piano and Heidi on violin perform a variety of styles of music with great energy and skill. They will be playing genres from Irish music, country western, classical, patriotic, bluegrass, traditional fiddles, sacred, to ragtime.

Shelton students benefit from Circle of Friends program

Rebecca Hoobler, Student Center Individualized Program Teacher (SCIP) was excited when she came to Shelton Public Schools last fall. Upon settling into her position, Ms. Hoobler noticed a couple of students on her case load who could be involved in the Nebraska Circle of Friends (NCF) project. What began as just students’ specific grade levels has turned into a school project. “Students who were shy in the first semester are now participating in activities in the second semester,” Ms. Hoobler reported.

The Big Show!

Wrestlers representing Wood River, Gibbon, Shelton and Centura converged on Omaha last weekend for the boys and girls state high school wrestling championships. Dylan Ancheta (above) led a team of four Eagle wrestlers at the meet, placing third in the Class C 152 pound class. Shelton’s Sebastian Sauceda and Gunner Spotanski came home with medals for the Bulldogs, and Gibbon’s 120 pounder Jose Escandon brought home the bronze. Hamilton receives several Broadband Bridge Act Grants

Hamilton Telecommunications, a local technology and telecommunications company was recently awarded several grants through the Nebraska Public Service Commission’s Broadband Bridge Grant Program. This additional funding will further enable Hamilton’s commitment to continue the construction to deliver fiber-to-the-home to 100 percent of former NCTC customers in Ansley, Arcadia, Burwell, Dannebrog, rural Gibbon, rural Ravenna, Sargent and additional rural areas within the service territory formerly served by NCTC. The company has begun construction planning for the fiber network in these areas with the goal to complete mainline fiber construction in the grant areas by July 1, 2023.
