Buffaloes struggle in holiday tournament, fall to Hornets

The Elm Creek Holiday Tournament and the first regular season contest of 2026 were struggles for the Gibbon boys basketball team as they met defeat at the hands of host Elm Creek on Monday, December 29, 42-85, and were then bested in the tournament’s third and fourth place match on Tuesday, December 30, by Arcadia/Loup City, 39-66. Giltner/Harvard came out on top of their contest with the Buffaloes, 74-54, in Giltner on Saturday, January 3.

Eagles host Wood River Holiday wrestling duals

“It was a rough day for our team,” Wood River head wrestling coach Darin Waddington said of the Wood River Holiday Duals Tournament held on Saturday, January 3, where the host Eagles finished in eighth place among eight teams competing. “We did not compete well and did not step up to the level of competition.” Pierce won the duals tournament.

Gibbon FBLA volunteers help brighten the holidays for local families

On December 21, 2025, members of the Gibbon Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter dedicated their time and energy to serving others through the Buffalo County Goodfellows holiday project. Their efforts focused on helping local families enjoy a brighter holiday season during a time of year that can be challenging for many.
