State directed health measures will put a damper on the annual Independence Day celebration in Shelton, but some activities are a go, while some are still questionable.
“As far as I know, there are four of us left. I’m the only boy and there are three girls” says Wayne Arnold, a graduate of the Class of 1950. The four class members were deprived of a moment of recognition as 70-year graduates since the Shelton High School alumni banquet was one of those happenings that was cancelled due to the spread of the coronavirus that has drawn much attention. Honor classes that would have been recognized this year, will be included in next year’s alumni banquet.
All four schools in Clipper Country (Gibbon, Shelton, Wood River Rural and Centura) will see changes in their administrative staff members for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.
The founder of the Shelton High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Shelton Baseball Hall of Fame will be inducted into the Shelton Hall of Fame this year, along with two SHS standout athletes. Daryl E. Blue, who died in April 2019, is being honored posthumously for his contributions to the organization, to Nebraska sports, and as a three-sport athlete at Shelton High School.
At a special meeting of the Shelton Village Board of Trustees on Monday, June 1, board members approved opening the swimming pool on Wednesday, June 10, and organized baseball practices and games at the baseball field, discussed July 4 activities; and hired a new police officer for the village.
