What parents, students and the community can expect on August 12 when classes are expected to begin for the 2020-21 school year was perhaps the most noteworthy agenda item at the regular meeting of the Gibbon Board of Education on Monday, June 8.
The annual Shelton July Fourth parade is on the schedule for this year. Chuck and Becky Roe, along with sponsor Matt Andrews Construction, are taking the reins to organize the 2020 parade. The theme for this year’s parade is “Together We’re Better.”
The annual July 4 Independence Day Parade in Gibbon is moving forward, according to Gibbon Chamber of Commerce President Laci Bentley.
Once again this year, a number of Clipper Country non-profit organizations will be taking part in the Sixth Annual Go Big GIVE activities which was rescheduled this year to be held on Tuesday, July 7. Go Big GIVE is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Grand Island Community Foundation and Heartland United Way to grow philanthropy in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick Counties. Matching funds and prize money are available to amplify charitable donations. Go Big GIVE is based on other successful giving days hosted by community organizations across the country. Wind took its toll on this large tree along Second Street and Lincoln Avenue in Shelton. High wind gusts reached over fifty miles an hour at times in eastern Buffalo County on Tuesday night leaving branches and debris in yards and in the streets.
