Reorganization of board officers and board committees was perhaps the biggest highlight of the regular monthly meeting of the Gibbon Board of Education when it met on Monday, February 8. The board repeated the reorganization steps to show the organization of the committees such as finance and facilities.
The monthly regular meeting of the Shelton Village Board of Trustees was a relatively short affair on Thursday, February 11, as was the list of agenda items the board covered.
An arctic air mass, which has reached as far south as Texas, continued to hold the state in its icy grip for a second week, breaking records and producing dangerous cold and wind chill factors. Forecasters have predicted a slow return to more moderate temperatures over the next few days with high temperatures reaching into the 30s over the weekend and could possibly reach the low 40s by Monday.
Twenty-nine competitors in fifth through eighth grades took part in the Hall County Spelling Bee, held at Wood River High School on Tuesday, February 9, with Wood River eighth grader Jacob Evans earning the 2021 Hall County Champion designation. Students from Wood River, Centura, Trinity Lutheran, 1R, and Cedar Hollow took part in the bee.
