Wood River plans for downtown revitalization at open house

At an open house held at the Wood River Community Center on Thursday, February 25, Wood River residents and members of the business community heard plans proposed by the city and the JEO engineering firm. Display boards presented that night gave those in attendance an idea of the improvements the city will be doing on Ninth and Main Streets and East and Ninth Streets along with landscaping. Also part of the plans is to replace street lights with an old fashioned style street light. Mayor Greg Cramer applied for the Community Development Block Grant which the city received in the amount of $445,000 and with the city’s contribution, the total project will cost $655,000. Mayor Cramer noted that $50,000 of the grant is to be used for commercial rehabilitation for facade renovation which allows property owners to apply to have windows, egresses, and facades renovated, but may have to match as much as twenty-five percent.
