U.P. train derails in Gibbon last week

At around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, a Union Pacific mixed-freight train derailed 28 rail cars in Gibbon. There were no injuries. Three mainlines were blocked by the derailment but Union Pacific employees and contractors worked for several days afterward to clear the site as quickly and safely as possible. The lines were reopened and train traffic resumed soon after the derailment. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, according to Tim McMahan, Corporate Relations for the Union Pacific.
