Legacy Station logo contest underway in Wood River
A public meeting was held in January of this year to propose either renovating Maltman Memorial Library or relocating the library, senior center, and food pantry to a new facility. After that event, the Feasibility Committee, including representatives of the Wood River City Council, Maltman Memorial Library, and senior center, which was involved from the very beginning to help facilitate a decision, met and reviewed the comments gathered from residents. Costs were examined and discussions were held about what would benefit the community the most. Ultimately, a recommendation was made to the city council to relocate the three entities in question to the empty wing next to Stick Creek Kids and it was approved.
Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster contest winners posted in Shelton Legion window
Winning posters created by Jeff Thober’s Shelton sixth grade class are available in the window of the Shelton American Legion for all to enjoy. The poppy oriented posters are in remembrance of all of America’s veterans and are the winners of a contest held in May. The contest, sponsored by the Shelton American Legion Auxiliary are reminders to remember our veterans not only on Memorial Day, on Independence Day, and Veterans Day, but all year long. If you have a family member who is a veteran, ask them to share their stories and then write those experiences down. In general, when you meet a Veteran, thank them for their service and take the time to talk with them. Ask them about their service, and if they are willing to share it, remember it and remember them now. These stories are their enduring legacy. (–photo by Dennis Walker)
