Gibbon kick-starts holiday festivities with fanfare at the park

Gibbon’s first annual Christmas in the Park was a well attended and huge success. The Saturday event started with a holiday market, ornament making, hay rack rides, and plenty of cider and hot chocolate. The annual Holiday Storybook Walk was hosted by the Gibbon Public Library and Gibbon Fire Hall was the site of a delicious soup supper on the chilly evening. After the introduction by Mayor Deb VanMatre, the lights were on, and Santa made his arrival. Christmas caroling proceeded the announcement of the winning decorated Christmas tree … produced by the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department! More pictures from the event are on page 6, and on our website photo gallery.

On Friday, November 18, the Gibbon Mock Trial team defeated Kearney High in the Regional Championship round, held in Kearney at the Buffalo County Courthouse. Gibbon was the defendant in the case, and Kearney High acted as the plaintiff, according to Gibbon coach Angie Clevenger. The Gibbon team will advance to State Mock Trial, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday, December 5 and 6, at the Hruska Federal Courthouse in Omaha. Twelve teams advanced to the state competition. Each team will compete in three trials, two on Monday and one Tuesday morning. The two highest scoring teams will advance to the championship round on Tuesday evening.
