“’Tis the Season for Giving Back”

Generous contributions from local individuals and businesses will provide families in need with food and gift boxes again this season. As an extension of their “Merry and Bright” Holiday Event, Shelton Area Lions Club contributed proceeds from their raffle to the Goodfellows. Small town kindness shone brightly through a variety of prizes donated by Sylvia Spellman, Hair Hut, Shelton TeamMates, Ramos Construction, Willis Repair, Gangwish Seed Farms, Precision Billing, and Cornerstone Bank. Pictured is Lions President Nate Kosse handing Shelton Goodfellows Coordinator Kaye Meints a check for $1,400.00. Community Goodfellows volunteers will meet at the Shelton American Legion Hall on Saturday, December 24, at 8:30 a.m. to assemble and deliver gift boxes. (—photo by Barb Berglund)

Christmas celebration held in Boelus

Boelus held its annual Christmas celebration at the community center on Saturday, December 17. Many local businesses donated gifts for the door prize drawing for the adults. Gifts donated included hams, turkeys, gift baskets, gift certificates, and cheese and crackers. The children had crafts, games, a visit with Santa and received a bag of treats. Russ Jensen, a member of the village board, told a story about how the town started having Christmas celebrations in 1930. Back then, the children got out of school at 2:30 and came downtown to a central location and participated in the celebrations outside on the street. It was interesting to see how many people in attendance remembered this. The large crowd enjoyed music and refreshments that were furnished by the town of Boelus. (—courtesy photos)
